Okay, I will be honest I only chose this book because it had food on it. I thought it would be about a teenage girl talking about her favorite food. After reading the book I found out she was talking about あんこ anko or red beans paste desserts (i assumed it was her favorite ). Throughout the book I believe she was explaining how she eats red beans in every season. She would wear a different outfit and explain where the red bean was in the dessert. I also noticed that her hair is shaped like a red bean. That is so funny. I love red bean paste. My family eats it a lot and now I want to try all the desserts she was talking about! They look so yummy.

Well lucky for me I get to celebrate many holidays since I come from three different cultures. American holidays aren’t usually my favorite but I like getting the school days off for them. Growing up, American holidays were just a nice excuse to see family or clean the house and catch up on some homework. The only Vietnamese holiday my family celebrates is Lunar new year. I love receiving all the red envelopes (all of the designs are so pretty) from family members ( even though I’ve been getting less over the years which makes me sad). It’s one of the easier holidays I can celebrate without my family.I love all the food I get to eat ( especially dim sum) and seeing my family members.I love giving people red envelopes but I don’t give money ( I just write nice cards to my friends because I am broke). Cambodian holidays are probably my favorite but they are harder to celebrate now that I am on my own in KC. Khmer new year is so much fun. Once it was April my family and I would go to...

(I forgot to take a picture of the cover but I think it looked like this)  This time around I got a much easier blue book to read. Going by the pictures it looks like it's a book about different types of drinks such as water, coffee, sake matcha, and miso. I was able to read the book pretty well! ( with the help of a chart but still big steps) I was able to identify the kanji for water 水. The book would introduce different types of cups and the drink that goes with it. I had trouble with the word とつくリ but I looked it up on Jisho and I didn’t get any good results so I am assuming it means sake bottle? Either way this was a nice book to read and I am so happy I didn’t struggle too much with it! That’s progress... I think!

From what I remember growing up I didn’t get to do much. ( my parents didn’t have enough money or time to take me to clubs) I mostly just stayed at my grandparent’s house and we would cook together and watch tv.  Other kids in America go to clubs after school such as soccer or art clubs. ( but I was able to do any of those until I got a car in high school) . Some would go over to their friend’s house and play outside. If they really struggled academically they would take private lessons or tutoring provided by the school. For example, I was in a reading/ESL class in elementary school. Kids in America don’t usually go to cram school like they do in Japan. There is also no exam to enter any school that's only for college I believe. (which I am so grateful for!)  I feel like Japanese students don’t ever have free time, they just seem so busy with school since they don't get out of class till 9 pm! I remember in class we discussed that Japanese students have to decide their ...

I got a little unlucky and grabbed a pretty difficult blue book off of the shelf, but thankfully we were able to read with partners in class this time. (thank goodness I had Serena) From my understanding, I think the book was about Japan and some of their statistics… maybe there were a lot of numbers so I just assumed. It talked about many things such as  Japan’s population compared to other countries and what cities are the most populated and things of that nature. Although Japan is a small country it has a big population. The pictures help Serena and I a lot. I think we were struggling with the word tall/height in kanji but then we took a closer look at the picture below and realized they were comparing the height of the average Japanese man to other people from around the world. It said Japanese people are short in comparison to the rest of the world. It was fun to discover that Japanese people count their children in decimals instead of weeks or months like we do in the w...
